Event Description
The third annual Bat Cave 8k Run/Walk will once again be held at the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda. The event is run almost entirely on Millennium Trail, which is a crushed limestone path and is plenty wide for side-by-side running. In addition to the 8k event, we will have a Free kids fun run. This will take place at Shelter E, which is where the start/finish for the 8k is. All kids will receive a finishers ribbon for there participation.
Why is it called the Bat Cave? Well, Shelter E at the Lakewood Forest Preserve is home to a bat shelter. No worries, were running in daylight, so nothing will be chasing us, except each other.
Course
The 8k course is an out and back held entirely within the preserve. After a short straight stretch to begin, runners will traverse on to a grassy path (used as a horse trail) for about 1/2 of a mile. This trail then connects with Millennium trail that weaves through the Lakewood Forest Preserve. Once runners reach the turnaround point, they will head in the exact way they headed out.
Once on Millennium Trail, the course becomes rolling and will present a nice challenge for all participants. Portions of the horse trail can be a little slick when wet, so please use use caution.
There will be three aid stations on the course. One at mile 1, the second at the half- way point and the third at mile 4. Aid stations will have Gatorade and water.
