Event Description

The inaugural Bat Cave 8k run will be held at the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda.  In addition to the 8k event, we will also hold a kids 1/4 mile fun run.  The fun run will be free to kids 8 and under.

This event will raise money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research.  A minimum of 25% of the event fee will be donated to The V Foundation.  Since 1993, The V Foundation has raised more than $70 million.  The V Foundation is proud to report that 100% of each direct cash donation and net proceeds of events is used to fund cancer research.  The V Foundation has earned a top four-star rating from Charity Navigator, signifying that the V Foundation has outperformed its peers in its ability to manage and grow its finances.  Please read more about The V Foundation at http://www.jimmyv.org/.

In addition to the 8k event, we will have a Free kids 1/4 mile (or so) fun run).  This will take place at and around Shelter E, which is where the start/finish for the 8k is.

Why is it called the Bat Cave?  Shelter E at the Lakewood Forest Preserve is home to a bat shelter.  No worries, were running in daylight, so nothing will be chasing us, except each other.

Course

The 8k course is an out and back held entirely within the preserve.  After a short straight stretch to begin, runners will traverse on to a grassy path (used as a horse trail) for about 1/2 of a mile.  This trail then connects with Millenium trail that weaves through the Lakewood Forest Preserve.  Once runners reach the turnaround point, they will head in the exact way they headed out.

Once on Millenium Trail, the course is a little rolling and will present a nice challenge for all participants.  Portions of the horse trail can be a little slick when wet, so please use use caution.
