Lake Zurich Area Triathlon
Sunday July 11, 2010 @ 6:50 AM
Paulus Park
Lake Zurich, IL
Event Description
The area’s premier USAT sanctioned Olympic distance triathlon returns to Lake Zurich with the Lake Zurich Area Triathlon. In addition to the one loop swim, the event will feature an updated bike and run course that will primarily be flat and fast. This year’s event will also include an Expo on Saturday, July 10 at the race site at Paulus Park. Join Runners High 'n Tri, along with other event sponsors, at the expo for pre-race packet pick-up and other activities.
The swim will be a 1.5k single loop and counter-clockwise swim in Lake Zurich. The swim will begin and end at the beach of Paulus Park. Following the swim, participants will have a decent run from the water to the transition area at the park.
The 4ok bikeis a flat to rolling course that will travel through Lake Zurich and surrounding communities. The course primarily will travel North on newly paved Rt. 12, East on Ivanhoe road which runs between the Lakewood Forest Preserve and South on Fairfield road taking participants back into Lake Zurich before beginning a second loop of the course. At the end of the second leg of the bike, participants will travel South on Lions Dr. into downtown Lake Zurich where they will go around the lake and eventually head back towards Paulus Park.
The scenic 10k run will start by going around a portion of the lake before turning onto a long stretch of Lions Drive. The course will make a few turns before moving onto Old Rand Rd. This will be an out and back section that will eventually take runners to Rand Rd. and then a finish back in the middle of Paulus Park.
