Race Wrap-up: Bat Cave 8k at Lakewood Forest Preserve

The morning of August 17 provided great weather for the inaugural Bat Cave 8k at the Lakewood Forest Preserve.  A field of over 100 took to the challenging course that wound its way on Millennium Trail through the preserve.

In the end, Dave Schaefers crossed the finish first for the men in a time of 30:31.  This was 43 seconds faster than our second place finisher Scott Birk, all the way from Austin Texas.  Just 5 seconds behind Scott in third was Brian Sweney in a time of 31:19.

The women's race was won by Colleen Donovan in a time of 32:53, which was good for 8th place overall.  Roughly 1:30 behind Colleen in 2nd was Ann Coles.  Renee Reed rounded out the top three women on the day.
